Justice and Mercy
This is what the LORD Almighty says: Judge fairly and honestly, and show mercy and kindness to one another. Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and poor people. And do not make evil plans to harm each other. - Zechariah 7:9-10
No, O people, the LORD has already told you what is good, and this is what he requires: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. -Micah 6:8
Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles, and refuse to let the world corrupt us. -James 1:27
I have just returned from a mission trip with my youth group through an organization called YouthWorks. I want to give this organization some mad props - or as we said their, "a barrel of coal."
During two days there our focus was on justice and mercy. These are topics that I have been wrestling with and trying to understand, and to figure out how to put it into practice. I have been especially thinking about these issues recently as the plight of many African nations and the overwhelming poverty that exists there.
As Christians God calls us over and over again to strive for righteousness, justice, and mercy. As I am starting to head out into a new ministry, my hope is to instill a love for justice and mercy into my currect students and to help cultivate this into the lives of new students.
Pray that God will shape my heart. Pray that he will shape your heart. Pray that we will be people who do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with our Lord.
